It's been almost a year since I went back to work and lots of things have changed in our life, including my waist size. Nothing drastic but enough to make me feel bad about my appearance. A little too much jiggle-jiggle and poochy pooch if you know what I mean.
Last week I met up with a friend who has been doing Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred DVD and she looked fantastic. Of course, I was completely inspired and ran out to buy the DVD. The workouts are only 20 minutes long. I figure if I can't find 20 minutes a day to do something for myself, I have bigger problems than a little waist fat.
This morning was my maiden voyage with Jillian. Is it a bad sign if I'm out of breath two minutes into the warm up? The comments from the peanut gallery didn't help. "Mom, you're looking really tired."
Despite the mess of panting and edge-of-death that was me on my basement floor this morning, I finished the 20 minute workout. Now I sit her nauseous from what I can only imagine is my body being in total and utter shock. But I feel so good. Really, I do. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

Yup- so right there with ya on dvd's :) Don't even buy em' - just trudge along on an elliptical. It don't look all skinny in a leotard :) hehe!
Oh I admire you Cara! I have that DVD too and yet it is collecting dust in my cabinet...
Keep going girl! Maybe it will motivate me!
At least you are trying...I always went back down to skinny when I had my little ones. Then I complained about it because I was too skinny(I thought)...now; hahaha
give me back my skinny!!! I am now 58 and my middle is growing with my age....what to do?? hahaha complain..lol. So; you keep at it and feel good about it.
Seriously; not that bad; but a let down, because my clothes don't look the same now....
I'm with you! I started doing Tae Bo videos last week, and I'm having a hard time moving. :) I tried the shred before. It's really good, but sometimes you have to fight the urge to punch Jillian in the face (like when she says "you should really see your 6-pack coming through by now!").
Awesome! I started her DVD a while ago and had the exact same response. The kids said she was mean and trying to kill me. I literally thought I was going to die about 5 minutes into it.
It gets better. Kind of :)
Too funny - my verification word is FLOGING! Ha!!!!
The nausea always gets me, too. Keep at it! I hate videos like this (Tae Bo made me cry), but 20 minutes? I may have to look into this one.
Oh geez... I'm scared of her. Like paranoid scared. I don't know if I could do it. I'll be curios to see if you see results...
I recently got this DVD, and am afraid to start it for this very reason! Kudos to you for doing the workout. You can do this!
20 minutes!! That's awesome! I may have to look into this for after baby. My hubby tried to talk me into P90X last winter - I think that was 60-90 a day. Best of luck! Can't wait to hear your progress!
You go girl. Joe and I have been getting up super early to go for a walk along the river. It's school holidays and I don't have to make lunches. I've got to say I'm exhausted after 2 weeks! I need a sleep in!
I need to start this again...we should do it together! Last year when I did it, I couldn't lift my arms up after day 3--too many push ups! But this fat won't melt just sitting on my couch :(
I bought the Zumba game for my wii and I'm too scared to even plug it in yet...and it's supposed to be fun. lol
Right there with you. Oh wait. You're doing better because you actually did the dvd. lol
Oh Cara, Jillian is so mean. It's like she can see through the TV and knows when you are cheating or resting. But she does know her stuff and if you keep it up, it makes a difference. I will tell you two things: first- level 2 is THE WORST. 3 is easier than 2. second- you will have trouble sitting on the potty tomorrow. just fall into in and then get up however you can. sitting is hard. Enjoy :)
OMG, so funny!! I felt the same way especially when you are doing the jumping jacks and she says "Come on, I've got 400lb people doing these, you can too!" It doesn't motivate me. Not. At. All. I have her book Making the Cut. I have to say, it's fantastic and all the recipes that I've made out of it have been delicious!
Keep going! I did it after baby #1- (um, she was 21 months old at the time hee hee) and I lost all the baby weight! I did it every day for about 4 months. I was about 20 lbs. overweight at the time. And I ate better too- that probably helped a bit. And I agree with danaandthread- level 2 is awful, but 3 is better. I just love that it's quick. And it does get easier. I definitely felt stronger! Hubby and I are about to start it again, so know that there is another Shred-Head out there sweating with you! And if you get annoyed with her telling you what to do, we used to mute her and put on some jumpy music. That helped a lot. :)
