Hello there. My name is Cara and I like to write and sew, though not at the same time. That would be dangerous.
I am the mother of three little girls (Lila, Rosalie, and Violet) who ensure that I'm in a perpetual state of sleep deprivation and that my house is never clean.
You should know that our two youngest daughters are preemies. Rosalie was born at 34 weeks. Violet was born at 27 weeks. During both their pregnancies we dealt with a rare antibody/isoimmunization issue involving an antigen called Kell. Both girls received multiple blood transfusions prior to birth to keep them alive. Violet crashed during her third transfusion and was delivered by emergency c-section a mere two pounds five ounces. She spent 110 days in the NICU but today is home and thriving. She's a miracle.
I try to keep it real here on my blog -- warts and all -- because let's face it: motherhood can sometimes be messy and difficult and frustrating. It's also rewarding as hell. I write about that too. I also write about my great escape: sewing.
What I don't typically write about: my work (you wouldn't care), food/cooking (I don't cook much), or my husband (he's a private sort of guy).
So let's see. Other things about me?
- I have a bad habit of going back and editing posts that I've published.
- I'm a self-taught quilter.
- Garment sewing gives me hives.
- I can stack things like pots and pans, piles of books and papers, and canned goods in my pantry in seemingly impossible ways. They only seem to fall on my husband.
- I didn't try salad until I was 25.
- When I'm really upset, I rearrange furniture.
- I could eat candy corn or cotton candy until I physically got sick. And then I'd probably eat some more.
- I'm short and rarely wear make up. Therefore I look like I'm about 12 years old. I suppose that's not a bad thing.
- I'm freakishly fertile, as evidenced by defying the 99.5% effective rate of an IUD. I fear that maybe I could get pregnant from a toilet seat.
- I'm sarcastic. I wish there was a font for that.
- I love reading comments and hearing from my readers.
Thanks for stopping by and reading.

Hi there. I stumbled upon your blog via Monkeys In My Pockets. Just wanted to say that our first born was also born premmie. 28 weeks and 3 pounds. But he's 3.5yrs now and a whopping nearly 20kg. Our 2nd was born dead on 40wks and 10.2lbs!!!
LOL. I hear you on the fertility front :) Both my boys were conceived while on the pill. Some things are just meant to be :) My Gus (my youngest) was also a premmie. Born 35 weeks so not that early but he was breach and we'd just moved a few days before. He's still petite but a real little chatterbox.
I love your blog .. I'm attempting to learn to quilt but I am anal about matching fabrics, therefore I can take a year to accomplish a small task if it involves more than 3 .. I can identify with:
•I have a bad habit of going back and editing posts that I've published.
•Garment sewing gives me hives.
therefore I make bags ..

I just happened upon your blog after I saw one of your posts on DiapersSwappers.com about trying to choose a feisty/spirited name for your daughter. It looks like you ended up choosing the name Rosalie Pearl and this sounds SO beautiful, and yes, feisty! Your post at the time said the name Ruby was on your shortlist and I was intrigued because this is my name. (All I had done was a simple google search trying to help a cousin find some spunky/feisty baby names, and wa-la, there was my name on the page!) lol Anyway my name is Ruby (Ruby Lou) and I would definitely say that I am as feisty and spirited as they come! (: I own my own website design business in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is an excellent blog - you should look into the possibility of adding google Pay-per-click ads (google.com/adsense) on it, you could probably earn quite a bit of revenue from putting these on your site, just a tip! (:
My twins were born at 26 & 4/7 because of preeclampsia. My darling baby boy Oliver passed away during his first night. But Pepper Jean, our beautiful daughter, 1lb 7oz fought and fought through many obstacles, two surgeries and had a 162 day stay in the NICU. before coming home Nov 30th 2010. she is truly amazing, and now 16 months old and the light of our lives.
thanks for your story.
